Shevington High School is seeking to appoint a committed and highly motivated Senior Finance Officer to join our Office Team.

The key responsibilities of the role will be:-

  • Oversee and manage the day to day running of the schools accounting and financial management information systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Under the direction of the School Business Manager, assist in the annual reporting and budget cycle ensuring timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, prepare annual estimates, monitor accounts against budgets, regular reports on income & expenditure, monitor and evaluate contracts and service level agreements.
  • Prepare and monitor budgets, financial forecasts, and monthly reports.
  • Process and review invoices, orders, receipts, and payments in a timely manner.
  • Assist with end of year financial procedures and annual audits.
  • Maintain accurate records for all financial transactions, including income and expenditure.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial legislation and reporting standards.
  • Order goods and services, including the obtaining of quotes and monitoring of Service Level Agreements/Contracts to ensure best value and in line with school procurement processes.
  • Monthly submission of payroll claims and absence returns to the Local Authority, monthly payroll reconciliation and resolving any payroll queries.
  • Co-ordination of services to school with external providers e.g. Peripatetic-music service and Bus Services, dealing with queries providing swift resolutions.
  • Prepare for school audits as required.
  • Assist and support the Office Manager with the smooth running of the School Office undertaking duties as and when necessary, and deputise for the Office Manager if required.
  • If required, to provide effective clerking and advisory service to the Governing Body and to provide advice in order to ensure it operates within the statutory framework/regulations.


The successful candidate will have:-

  • Experience of a similar role, preferably in the education or finance sector, combined with strong IT and analytical skills and a high standard of English and Maths.
  • Ability to convert data into management information that is easily understood by a wide range of audiences.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to engage with colleague at all levels, together with the ability to provide exceptional customer service to stakeholders.
  • Motivation to streamline processes, identify and implement continuous improvement whilst ensuring compliance with Local Authority procedures and regulations.
  • Be a flexible team player with a willingness to support colleagues and establish positive working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Be able to prioritise competing demands and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
