Your role
Your role will be key to delivering the Building Control service for Salford. We want you to:
- Assist the Senior BC Service Lead in undertaking the strategic evaluation of service delivery.
- Assist the Senior BC Service Lead in recognising service needs, forecasting future requirements, and monitoring progress against financial and performance targets.
- Provide prioritised day-to-day management and achieve effective results through allocation, co-ordination and delegation of Building Control Team workload.
- Support team learning and development. Deliver appraisals, disciplinary and performance reviews. Provide 1:1 monitoring, feedback and coaching.
- Act as day-to-day service lead for key high-risk, complex and major developments, major incidents, and the Building Safety Regulator.
- Provide elevated and expert technical advice to all service users, including the Building Safety Regulator and licence application reviewers.
- Develop and maintain risk assessments, robust checks, controls and QMS.
- Lead on procurement, financial management and supervision of consultants and contractors.
- Assist or deputise, when necessary, for the Associate Director of Planning & Building Control and Senior BC Service Lead.
- Be available for emergencies (dangerous structures, major emergencies, etc.) via the BC out-of-hours call-out rota.
Your profile
- A construction-related degree and eligibility for membership of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors / Association of Building Engineers.
- Current registration as a Registered Building Inspector is essential. Applications from individuals who are not currently registered cannot be considered. Applicants should have significant Building Control experience and ideally hold Class 3 Category H registration, or be able to demonstrate the competence, experience and capability to progress to this level.
- Significant experience in the application of the Building Regulations across all building types, including complex and high-rise developments.
- A detailed understanding of current and emerging legislation and associated challenges facing the profession.
- The ability to resolve challenging technical problems through collaboration and discussion with applicants and their agents, members of the public, BSR, councillors and others as necessary.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work effectively at all levels, particularly with senior officers.
- The ability to prioritise and manage a challenging, varied workload, with a proactive approach to producing positive outcomes.
- The skills to supervise and mentor an established team of experienced and trainee Building Control Surveyors, while dealing with your own casework.
