Role Overview:

In your role as Consultant in Public Health, you will provide public health advice and leadership, to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities in Oldham, working across the Council, the NHS and key partners. You will support the Director of Public Health to discharge the Council’s statutory public health responsibilities and deputise for the DPH as needed.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide public health expertise across the breadth of public health, leading a defined portfolio, including management and resource responsibilities for your lead areas.
  • Work with a wide range of stakeholders across the Council, and with partners agencies and voluntary organisations to improve public health outcomes and reduce health inequalities.
  • Responsibility for development, implementation and delivery of strategic plans and policies, with delegated organisational authority to deliver key public health targets.
  • Provide public health leadership to support and inform an evidence-based approach for commissioning and developing high quality equitable services in Oldham.


Key Requirements:

  • To ensure the development and utilisation of information and intelligence to underpin public health improvement and action for the population of Oldham across disciplines and organisations.
  • To lead on developing inter-agency and interdisciplinary strategic plans for securing health improvement in the population of Oldham and in vulnerable groups at high risk of poor health and reduced life expectancy.
  • Provide support to Oldham’s Health and Wellbeing Board, and other relevant strategic boards to drive Public Health action and achieve the greatest population health impact.
