Your role:

The Management Trainee Programme is designed for individuals eager to engage in the world of local government and develop skills that will set them on a successful path. Over two rewarding years, you will rotate through various teams and departments, spending 12 months in each role, ensuring every day offers fresh challenges and opportunities for growth. You will be actively involved in projects that help shape the city and benefit our communities.

You will collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds—learning from experienced professionals and fellow trainees as you participate in significant projects. Additionally, you will earn a nationally recognised qualification—either a Level 4 Associate Project Manager or Level 4 Policy Officer Apprenticeship—while you work. You will receive comprehensive support, including dedicated time to study and opportunities to tailor your learning to your interests. The qualification will correspond to your job placements and prior experience, enabling you to maximise your potential.

Alongside this, you will access further training and professional development to enhance your skills. You will join a cohort of fellow trainees, forming a valuable network from the outset. If you are ready to challenge yourself, develop as a leader, and make a difference, this programme is an excellent opportunity for you.

Hybrid working

This role is part of GMCA’s hybrid working scheme. As part of our commitment to ‘Build Back Fairer’ in Greater Manchester following the Covid-19 pandemic, we have evolved our management methods by trusting and empowering staff to deliver their work in the best way that suits the business and their individual needs, and supports health and wellbeing. Our hybrid working policy sets out a flexible approach, combining attendance at our [Manchester city centre office / Fire and Rescue service HQ in Swinton / other location] with remote working, typically from home; the location of work is primarily dictated by the needs of the business: ‘Do what is right for you and the business on that day’. If appointed to the role you will work with your manager to agree and regularly review the best working pattern for you, your team and your work.
