The Role
£28,142 to £31,022, pay award pending
As a Digital, Employment and Skills Support Assistant, you’ll play a vital part in helping Bolton residents build the digital skills, confidence and opportunities they need to thrive. Working within our Digital Employment and Skills team, you’ll support the delivery of community‑based programmes that provide access to free connectivity, devices, digital skills training and employability support. These programmes directly contribute to the Bolton 2040 Vision and the outcomes of the Crisis and Resilience Fund.

You’ll work across libraries and community settings to help residents improve their basic digital skills, access online services, and take steps toward personal development and sustainable employment. You’ll also help coordinate our digital inclusion services, including digital enquiries, ESOL support, device loans and gifting schemes.

Partnership working is central to the role. You’ll collaborate with community groups, volunteers, and partner organisations to understand local needs, promote our services, and ensure residents can access the right support at the right time. You’ll also contribute to the organisation of community events, gather performance data, and help ensure our programmes run efficiently and effectively.

This is a hands‑on, people‑focused role where you’ll make a real difference to residents who face barriers to digital access, employment and inclusion.

Within your cover letter please answer the following questions:
1. Describe a time you supported someone to develop their digital or employability skills - Please explain the situation, what support you provided, how you adapted your approach to their needs, and the outcome.

2. Give an example of how you have worked with community groups, volunteers or partner organisations. Tell us how you built relationships, identified needs, and contributed to delivering a successful activity, project or service.

3. Tell us about a time you had to organise your workload to meet deadlines or deliver a project
Describe how you prioritised tasks, overcame challenges, and ensured a
high quality service for customers or service users.

About You
You’ll be someone who is passionate about supporting people in the community and committed to helping residents overcome digital and employment‑related challenges. You’ll bring creativity, empathy and strong communication skills, enabling you to listen, understand individual needs and deliver support clearly and confidently.

You’ll have experience working with people with a range of needs- ideally in a community, learning or employability setting- and you’ll be comfortable using a variety of digital devices, platforms and tools. You’ll be confident in using ICT, including Microsoft applications, email, the internet and social media, and able to explain digital concepts in a simple, accessible way.

You’ll be organised, able to prioritise your workload, and happy working flexibly across the borough, including occasional evenings and weekends. You’ll also be someone who enjoys working with volunteers, supporting their development and helping them deliver high‑quality digital support.

Most importantly, you’ll be enthusiastic about digital inclusion, committed to Bolton Council’s values, and motivated by the opportunity to make a positive impact in local communities.
