SALARY: Grade G SCP 23-27 (£33,366 - £37,035 pro-rata) £28,571 - £31,713


STATUS: Permanent


HOURS: 37 hours per week, Term Time + 5 days


REQUIRED FROM: 1st September 2025


The Governors of Highfield Primary School are seeking to appoint a School Business Manager, with a passion for excellence in education, and with a commitment to continuous improvement and high standards. This is a senior leadership position in the school and the post holder will be an integral part of our Senior Leadership Team working closely with governors.


Highfield is a successful school, judged to be good by Ofsted (March 2022), where staff, parents and governors work closely together to provide a high quality education for all our pupils. You would be part of a hard-working and committed team with good opportunities for on-going professional development.


We are looking for a committed candidate who will:


  • Promote the highest standards of business ethos within the Administration team and make effective use of resources in support of the School Impact Plan.
  • Be an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team and contribute to and influence the school’s strategic direction for its future development, working closely with the Headteacher and Governors.
  • Line manage and performance manage the Administration and Premises staff teams.
  • Lead on all matters of financial management, facility and property management, human resources and health and safety management.
  • Lead on liaison with any external providers, such as caterers and contractors.
  • Have excellent IT skills including use of financial management information systems (FMS), SIMS, Word and Excel.
  • Have previous experience of financial management and control and experience of income generation. It will be an advantage to have previous experience working in schools.
  • Have experience of writing successful bids securing funds for the school.
  • Be solution focused and embrace creativity and innovation in all areas of resource and premises management


Key areas of responsibility:


Finance – we are a non-cheque book school, managing our own spending plan and budget in consultation with the school Finance team. Securing financial sustainability in the medium to longer term is of paramount importance. This includes applying for and managing external bids and contracts e.g. grant applications and procurement.


Administration – ensuring excellent procedures are in place and the delivery of statutory reporting to both internal and external stakeholders is within set timeframes.


Personnnel – managing HR procedures and paperwork.


Premises - collaborate with the Site Manager in maintaining and enhancing facilities and school buildings, including Health and Safety requirements/regulations and risk management. Work with building consultants for buildings improvements.


Leadership - line management of Office staff, Site Manager and School Cleaners. Take a proactive part in the leadership of the school as part of the Leadership Team.
