The Role:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven individual to join our Waste and Recycling team as a Waste Prevention and Recycling Officer.


The postholder will work closely internal and external partners to educate and continually support the improvement of recycling rates across the borough. You will help to ensure that Bolton’s recycling services are fit for purpose, efficient and is continually aligns with local, regional and national strategies. You will also represent the Council at local and regional waste meetings and events to share best practice and develop positive relationships with our various partners.


You will design and deliver promotional campaigns and distribute educational materials to wide audience including residents, neighbourhood groups, community leaders, business groups and other internal departments. In addition, you will lead social behaviour change, applying Council enforcement strategies and supporting the Council’s enforcement team in successfully prosecuting offenders.


About You:

For the right individual, this is a rewarding job in a fast-paced environment. You will have experience of working within an operational environment delivering frontline services, have knowledge of developing and implementing waste and recycling collection schemes and an understanding of relevant legislation, codes of practice and their implications upon service delivery.


Communication is critical for this role, and you will be required to communicate with a wide and varied audience. You must possess exceptional communication skills, have an adaptable communication style, have experience of influence and negotiating, be professional, organised and meticulous in your approach.


As a Waste Prevention and Recycling Officer you will play a key role in supporting Bolton’s refuse collection function. This includes creating and delivering training to operational teams, developing and managing media campaigns and producing regular reports for Management and Leadership teams. You must be proficient in using office-based ICT systems and have experience of meeting tight deadlines.
